The British Transport Police confirmed the incident, which occurred on the 6:25 pm LNER service travelling from Doncaster to London King’s Cross. Officers were called to reports of a multiple stabbing at approximately 7:39 pm GMT on Saturday, November 1st, prompting a large-scale emergency response.
The train was brought to an emergency stop at Huntingdon railway station, where armed officers from Cambridgeshire Constabulary boarded the carriage and arrested two men in connection with the attack. Both suspects have been taken into police custody.

Witnesses Describe ‘Horrendous Scenes’
Passengers who were on board the train described scenes of chaos and terror. Reports suggest a man armed with a large knife moved through the carriages, indiscriminately attacking passengers.
- One witness told media that they saw a person “extremely bloodied” running through the carriage, shouting, “They’ve got a knife, I’ve been stabbed.”
- Other passengers reportedly hid in washrooms to escape the rampage, with one witness telling The Times there was “blood everywhere”.
- It is understood one of the suspects was tasered and restrained by armed police on the platform upon the train’s arrival at Huntingdon.
The East of England Ambulance Service mobilised a major response, including numerous ambulances, critical care teams, and three air ambulances to transport the multiple patients to hospital.
Counter-Terrorism Support Investigation
While the motive for the brutal attack remains unclear, BTP has confirmed that Counter Terrorism Policing units are supporting the investigation. The police briefly initiated “Plato”—the national code word used for a potential marauding terror attack—though this declaration was later rescinded.
Chief Superintendent Chris Casey urged the public to refrain from speculation while urgent enquiries are carried out. “At this early stage it would not be appropriate to speculate on the causes of the incident,” he stated.
Political Condemnation and Disruption
The attack has been met with immediate condemnation from national leaders.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer took to social media, calling the incident “appalling and deeply concerning.” He extended his thanks to the emergency services for their swift response.
Due to the ongoing police operation at Huntingdon station, London North Eastern Railway (LNER) services along the East Coast Main Line have been severely disrupted, with passengers advised to check for updates and defer travel if possible.
Authorities continue to urge the public to avoid the area and follow police advice as the investigation into this shocking incident continues.
