The Deportation Operation
Anmol Bishnoi arrived in New Delhi around 10:00 AM IST on a chartered flight, reportedly carrying other deportees. His return follows the rejection of his asylum application by a US court on Monday, paving the way for his immediate removal by American federal authorities.
Sources confirm that NIA officials, who had been coordinating with the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), were stationed at the airport to take him into custody immediately upon landing. Following his arrest, he was taken for a mandatory medical check-up and is scheduled to be produced before Special NIA Judge Prashant Kumar at Patiala House Court at 4:00 PM today, where the agency will seek his remand for custodial interrogation.
A “Terror Syndicate” Unveiled
Anmol Bishnoi is not just a wanted criminal but is termed a “major cog” in the terror-crime nexus run by his brother, Lawrence Bishnoi. The NIA had placed him on its “Most Wanted” list, announcing a reward of ₹10 lakh for his capture.
Investigators allege that Anmol was responsible for operationalizing the gang’s activities from abroad, using encrypted messaging apps to coordinate hits, extortion rackets, and recruitment. He fled India in 2022 using a forged passport under the name “Bhanu Pratap,” traveling through Nepal, Dubai, and Kenya before settling in the US.
Key Charges & High-Profile Cases
Anmol Bishnoi’s arrest is expected to crack open investigations into several sensational crimes that have rocked India in recent years:
-
Baba Siddique Murder (2024): Anmol is named as a key conspirator in the assassination of NCP leader Baba Siddique in Mumbai. The Mumbai Police Crime Branch has invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against him, alleging he provided logistical support and directions to the shooters.
-
Salman Khan Residence Firing (2024): He allegedly claimed responsibility for the gunfire outside Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments in April 2024. In a brazen social media post, he termed the attack a “trailer,” signaling further threats to the actor.
-
Sidhu Moosewala Murder (2022): Anmol is also an accused in the brutal killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. Agencies believe he helped coordinate the logistics for the shooters before fleeing the country to evade arrest.
Family Expresses Concern
Ahead of his arrival, Anmol’s cousin, Ramesh Bishnoi, spoke to the media, urging the government to ensure his safety in custody. “He is being punished simply for being Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother. We respect the law, but our main demand is that his safety must be guaranteed by the Indian government,” Ramesh stated.
What’s Next?
The NIA is expected to seek a lengthy remand to interrogate Anmol on the gang’s funding channels and its links to pro-Khalistan elements. Once the NIA’s custody ends, other agencies, including the Mumbai Police Crime Branch and the Delhi Police Special Cell, are likely to seek his custody to probe the specific murder and extortion cases registered in their respective jurisdictions.
This arrest marks the 19th apprehension in the NIA’s ongoing crackdown on the terror-gangster syndicate, signaling a tightening noose around the Bishnoi gang’s global operations.
