Owaisi Slams PM Modi's 'Centuries-Old Wounds Healing' Remark in Ayodhya

Hyderabad, December 6, 2025 (Online Publication) – All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday strongly objected to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent statement in Ayodhya that “centuries-old wounds are healing,” made during the ceremonial completion of the Ram temple construction.

Addressing an event in Hyderabad, Owaisi challenged the premise of the Prime Minister’s remarks, citing the Supreme Court’s 2019 judgment in the Ayodhya title dispute.

The Basis of Exception

Owaisi questioned the nature of the “wounds” the Prime Minister referred to, arguing that the judicial record does not support the narrative of a temple demolition.

Prime Minister said wounds of 500 years are being healed. The question is that the Supreme Court, in its judgment, said there is no evidence that the mosque was erected after demolishing any temple, then on what basis is the PM speaking like this? What wounds is he talking about?” Owaisi asked the audience.

‘December 6 is a Black Day’

The AIMIM chief asserted that the true ‘wound’ was the demolition of the Babri Masjid, which he referred to as its “martyrdom,” and the subsequent weakening of the Constitution and the rule of law.

  • He unequivocally stated, “We have to understand and remember that December 6 is a Black Day.”

  • Owaisi drew parallels between the demolition and other dark moments in independent India’s history, placing it in the same category as the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi and the anti-Sikh violence following the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Focus on Constitutionalism and Rule of Law

Owaisi also brought up the legal and constitutional implications of the Ayodhya case and its aftermath.

  • He noted that the Supreme Court’s verdict was given “based on faith” but also pointed out that the judges in the case had affirmed that the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, 1991, is part of the Basic Structure of the Constitution.

  • The AIMIM leader further criticized the acquittal of the accused in the Babri demolition case, asking, “The question arises as to who demolished the mosque.”

  • He also highlighted that the Modi government did not appeal the trial court’s decision in the demolition case.

A Call for Secular Pluralism

Concluding his remarks, Owaisi stressed the foundational principle of a secular state, arguing that the country belongs to all its people, regardless of religion.

“The country has no religion, and it belongs to all people. If someone says it belongs to one religion, it will be disrespectful to all those who took part in the freedom struggle, which included Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and all religions,” he stated.
