Nepali Gang

HYDERABAD, Telangana, February 6, 2026 — In a chilling reminder of the vulnerabilities in urban households, a suspected transnational “Nepali Gang” allegedly orchestrated a daring burglary in the upscale Nandagiri Hills area of Jubilee Hills on Thursday night. The incident, involving the drugging of household staff, has reignited fears regarding the rising trend of infiltration-based thefts in the city.

The Jubilee Hills Heist: A Birthday Ruse

According to preliminary reports and citizen journalism accounts on X (formerly Twitter), the suspect—identified as Bhuvan, a native of Nepal—had been employed as a cook for just 15 days. On the night of February 5, Bhuvan reportedly told the household watchman and other domestic staff that it was his birthday.

Under the guise of a celebration, he offered the staff “spiked” cool drinks laced with sedatives. Once the workers fell unconscious, Bhuvan allegedly allowed three accomplices—also suspected to be Nepali nationals—into the residence. The gang systematically ransacked the property while the homeowners were away, decamping with:

  • Gold and Diamond Jewelry

  • Cash totaling approximately ₹20 lakh

Jubilee Hills police have registered a case and are currently reviewing CCTV footage stretching from Nandagiri Hills to the Jubilee Check Post to track the suspects’ escape route.

A Growing Menace: The 2025-2026 Pattern

The Jubilee Hills incident aligns with a disturbing surge in organized crime involving gangs posing as domestic help. Since late 2025, Hyderabad law enforcement has documented over a dozen similar cases.

Recent Notable Heists:

  • December 2025 (Karkhana): Five members of a 13-member gang were arrested for looting the home of a retired Army Captain. The gang planted two “insiders” as a domestic couple before tying up the 75-year-old veteran and stealing valuables worth ₹10 lakh.

  • May 2025 (Kachiguda): An elderly couple was drugged and robbed of 1kg of gold and ₹60 lakh in cash by a gang that had worked in their home for only a month.

  • December 2025 (Malakpet): A businessman was targeted by a Nepali couple employed for domestic work, resulting in a high-value theft of cash and ornaments.

Police Response and Public Safety Advisory

Experts note that these syndicates often use forged Aadhaar cards and operate through unverified domestic help agencies. A senior officer told PingTV that these gangs “exploit the trust of affluent families” before fleeing across the Nepal border, making recovery extremely difficult once they exit the country.

PingTV Safety Checklist for Homeowners:

  1. Mandatory Verification: Use the HawkEye mobile application to upload and verify the credentials of all domestic staff.

  2. ID Originals: Always cross-check ID proofs with original documents and keep copies of photos and emergency contacts.

  3. Surveillance: Install high-definition CCTV and motion-sensor alarms in areas where valuables are stored.

  4. Registration: For foreign nationals, ensure they are registered with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).

As the investigation into the Nandagiri Hills burglary continues, local resident associations are calling for stricter regulations on cross-border hiring and mandatory police verification for all gated community staff.
