Asaduddin Owaisi Muslim population Hindu India

Hyderabad/Nizamabad | February 7, 2026 – AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has launched a scathing attack on the RSS and the Central government, dismissing claims of a “demographic threat” from the Muslim community. Speaking at a public rally in Nizamabad, Telangana, on Friday evening, Owaisi stated that the Muslim population growth rate is in sharp decline and will “never surpass” the Hindu majority.

“Data Doesn’t Lie”: Owaisi on Declining TFR

Owaisi’s remarks come in response to recent statements from right-wing organizations and political leaders regarding the need for a population control law.

“In this country, the Muslim population will never surpass the population of our Hindu brothers,” Owaisi told the gathering. He cited the declining Total Fertility Rate (TFR) among Muslims, noting that the community has shown the sharpest drop in growth rates over the last few decades.

“The RSS keeps spreading the fear that Muslims will overtake Hindus. But look at the data—Muslims are using family planning tools more than ever. The gap between two children is being maintained. Why is there a fear-mongering campaign when the country is actually heading toward an ageing population?” he questioned.

Targeting PM Modi and RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat

The Hyderabad MP did not hold back in his criticism of RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s recent advice to Indian families to have three children.

“On one hand, they talked about a Population Control Bill, and on the other, Mohan Bhagwat is asking people to have three children. This is classic doublespeak,” Owaisi remarked. He further criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent speech in the Rajya Sabha, where the PM highlighted India’s “young population” as a global strength.

“If 60% of our population is under 40, as the PM says, then where are the jobs? Where are the skills?” Owaisi asked, accusing the government of failing to utilize the “demographic dividend” it frequently praises.

The ‘Miya’ Controversy and Constitutional Rights

The rally also saw Owaisi addressing the controversial “Miya Muslim” remarks made by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. Mocking the CM’s suggestion to “disturb” the community, Owaisi offered a sharp “two-rupee jibe,” calling the rhetoric a direct violation of the Indian Constitution.

“The Constitution says everyone is equal. Whether it is an auto-driver or the Prime Minister, rights remain the same. These attempts to polarize by using terms like ‘Miya’ or ‘Infiltrator’ are nothing but political desperation ahead of upcoming polls,” Owaisi added.

Why the Population Debate is Heating Up

The debate over religious demographics has intensified following a working paper from the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), which suggested a decline in the Hindu population share between 1950 and 2015. However, demographers and opposition leaders like Owaisi have pointed out that the absolute growth of the Hindu population remains significantly higher, and the 2021 Census delay has left a vacuum filled by “Whatsapp University” myths.
