HYDERABAD, Feb 9, 2026 — With just 48 hours remaining for the high-stakes Telangana Urban Local Body (ULB) polls, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has set the stage for a high-octane “three-cornered contest.” Speaking ahead of the February 11 polling day, Reddy asserted that the electoral battlefield is a direct fight between the ruling Congress, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The Chief Minister’s remarks, shared via a widely circulated social media address, dismiss the influence of smaller parties and independents, framing the election as a clear mandate on his government’s two-year performance.
Congress Targets 90% Sweep in Urban Centers
Confident of a “pro-incumbency” wave, Revanth Reddy has set an ambitious target to capture over 90% of seats across the state. The elections will cover 116 municipalities and 7 municipal corporations, excluding Hyderabad, Warangal, and Khammam (which are not part of this phase).
“Public feedback and internal surveys indicate overwhelming support for our welfare schemes and the ‘Indiramma Rajyam’ initiatives,” Reddy stated, urging party workers to ensure a clean sweep in key urban pockets.
The Opposition Strike Back: BRS and BJP Intensify Campaign
The opposition is far from yielding. KT Rama Rao (KTR), Working President of the BRS, has labeled these elections a “referendum” on the Congress administration, accusing the ruling party of failing to deliver on its 2023 Assembly poll guarantees.
Simultaneously, the BJP has deployed national leaders to urban strongholds, launching their “Viksit Telangana BJP Sankalp Patra-2026” manifesto, which promises a freeze on property tax hikes and transparent governance.
The “MIM Factor” and Multi-Cornered Contests
Despite the CM’s “three-way” narrative, the AIMIM, led by Asaduddin Owaisi, is mounting a fierce challenge in at least 15 urban local bodies, including Adilabad, Nizamabad, and Mahbubnagar. In these areas, the contest has effectively turned into a “four-cornered battle,” potentially splitting the minority vote bank and complicating the math for the Congress.
