Hyderabad | February 10, 2026 — A 27-year-old physics teacher has been arrested in Telangana’s Medchal-Malkajgiri district after allegedly entering into a secret marriage with a minor student. The incident, which took place at a private school in the Pocharam IT Corridor, has triggered massive public outrage and raised serious questions regarding student safety and institutional accountability.

The Incident: A ‘Turmeric Thread’ Unveils the Truth

The case involving the accused, identified as Parre Maitin, surfaced approximately 20 days ago. The minor girl’s mother reportedly discovered a pasupu tadu (a traditional turmeric-smeared thread used in Telugu weddings) around her daughter’s neck.

Upon confrontation, the 10th-grade student confessed to the relationship. Investigations suggest that Maitin used “persuasive and affectionate language” during school hours to groom the student before eventually performing a secret marriage ceremony at an undisclosed location.

Police Action and POCSO Charges

Following an inadequate initial response from the school management, the victim’s parents approached the Pocharam IT Corridor Police.

  • Accused: Parre Maitin (27), Physics Teacher.

  • Charges: Sections under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

  • Status: The accused has been remanded to judicial custody.

Circle Inspector B. Raju Varma confirmed that the arrest was made following a formal complaint. The police are currently investigating the timeline of the grooming and whether any other parties assisted in the illegal marriage ceremony.

Public Outrage Over Institutional Negligence

The news has gone viral on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), with citizens demanding stricter background checks for educators. Many are questioning how a teacher could groom a student and perform a marriage ritual without the school administration noticing any red flags.

“This is a grave failure of oversight. Schools must be a safe haven, not a place where minors are exploited by those meant to protect them,” read one high-engagement post on social media.

Legal and Social Implications

Under Indian law, marriage with a minor is not only void but also falls under the stringent provisions of the POCSO Act and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act. Educational experts are now calling for mandatory psychological profiling of staff and the installation of better monitoring mechanisms within private institutions across Telangana.
