Four Members of Notorious ‘Sigma and Company’ Gang Neutralised in Delhi Encounter: Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar

New Delhi/Patna, October 23, 2025:

In a major breakthrough against organized crime, four members of Bihar’s notorious ‘Sigma and Company’ gang, led by the ‘most wanted’ criminal Ranjan Pathak, were killed in an encounter with a joint team of the Delhi Police Crime Branch and the Bihar Police in Delhi’s Rohini area in the early hours of Thursday.

Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar confirmed the successful operation, terming the gang members as contract killers and stating that their neutralisation has averted potential attempts to disrupt the law and order situation, particularly in Sitamarhi, ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.

Details of the Encounter

The encounter took place around 2:20 AM on the Bahadur Shah Marg, between Dr. Ambedkar Chowk and Pansali Chowk, in Rohini.

  • Acting on specific intelligence regarding the gang’s movement and plans to carry out a major criminal activity before the Bihar polls, a joint team of the Delhi Police Crime Branch and Bihar Police laid a trap.
  • When the police team tried to intercept the suspects, the criminals allegedly opened fire, prompting a retaliatory response from the police.
  • The brief but intense exchange of fire resulted in bullet injuries to all four accused. They were rushed to Dr. BSA Hospital, Rohini, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
  • No police personnel were reported to have sustained serious injuries.

Gang Members Identified

The four deceased gangsters have been identified as:

  1. Ranjan Pathak (25) (Gang Kingpin)
  2. Bimlesh Mahto alias Bimlesh Sahni (25)
  3. Manish Pathak (33)
  4. Aman Thakur (21)

All four, except Aman Thakur who reportedly provided local shelter in Delhi, were natives of Bihar’s Sitamarhi district.

DGP’s Statement

Speaking to the media, Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar highlighted the dangerous nature of the group. “The gang was committing crimes almost every month. They were contract killers… We made a significant effort to gather information on this gang. Based on that intel, a team of Sitamarhi Police was camping in Delhi and was trying to locate them in coordination with Delhi Police. In this connection, they were being intercepted, which led to an encounter. All 4 were killed .”

The DGP further added, “It cannot be denied that they could have done something during the elections. They used to go out and plan, and once the planning was done, they used to execute it.”

Criminal History and Impact

The ‘Sigma and Company’ gang, also known as the Ranjan Pathak gang, was active for years, primarily operating in the Sitamarhi region of Bihar and in areas bordering Nepal. They were wanted in several heinous cases, including multiple murders, extortion, and armed robberies.

The gang was allegedly involved in the high-profile killings of Brahmashri Sena district head Ganesh Sharma, Madan Sharma, and Aditya Singh in Bihar. Police officials confirmed that the group was plotting to create unrest in Sitamarhi ahead of the elections.

DCP Crime Branch Sanjeev Yadav of Delhi Police confirmed the joint operation, stating, “During the exchange of fire, all four criminals sustained bullet injuries and later succumbed. The gang was wanted in multiple heinous offences in Bihar.”

Senior officials from both state police forces visited the encounter site, and a forensic examination is underway. The operation is considered a massive blow to organized crime networks operating across state lines. Further investigation is ongoing to trace other remaining associates and financiers of the gang.
