New Delhi, India – West Indies openers John Campbell and Shai Hope displayed remarkable grit to take the second Test into a fourth day, forging an unbroken 138-run partnership after India enforced the follow-on at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Kuldeep’s Five-For Dominates First Innings

 

The third day began with India dominating, thanks to a superb spell from left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who completed a five-wicket haul. Kuldeep’s figures of helped dismantle the West Indies middle and lower order, bowling them out for 248 and securing a massive 270-run first-innings lead.

Kuldeep’s five-for, his fifth in Tests, included the dismissals of the overnight pair, Shai Hope and Tevin Imlach, setting up a collapse that saw the visitors lose four wickets for just 47 runs in the morning session. After enforcing the follow-on, India’s bowlers quickly picked up two wickets before the tea break, placing the home side on course for an innings victory.

 

West Indies Show Character with Century Stand

 

However, in the second innings, West Indies showed a marked improvement. Opener John Campbell (87 not out) and Shai Hope (66 not out) weathered the storm of India’s spin attack on a slow pitch to bat through the entire final session. Campbell, in particular, was impressive, registering his first half-century of the tour, while Hope ended a run of 31 innings without a Test fifty.

The determined third-wicket pair ended Day 3 at , still trailing India by 97 runs. Their partnership is the first 100-plus stand for the West Indies in a Test match since July of last year.

 

Injury Update on Sai Sudharsan

 

In other news, India’s promising batter Sai Sudharsan did not take the field on Day 3 as a precautionary measure. Sudharsan sustained an “impact injury” on Day 2 while taking a spectacular catch at short-leg to dismiss John Campbell off Ravindra Jadeja. The BCCI Medical Team confirmed the injury is “not serious, and he is doing fine,” but he continues to be monitored. Sudharsan had earlier impressed with the bat, scoring in India’s formidable first-innings total of declared.
