INS Vikrant at International Fleet Review 2026

Visakhapatnam, Feb 2 (PingTV News): The “City of Destiny” is preparing to witness history as India’s indigenous powerhouse, INS Vikrant, takes center stage at the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2026. Starting February 18, the Bay of Bengal will transform into a global maritime theater, with over 60 friendly navies gathering to witness India’s growing “Blue Water” dominance.

The ‘Vikrant’ Factor: A Legend Reborn

Fresh from its pivotal role in Operation Sindoor, the INS Vikrant carrier battle group is the talk of the global naval community. During the operation, Vikrant’s strategic deployment in the Northern Arabian Sea was credited with a “strategy of compellence,” effectively neutralizing the Pakistan Navy and accelerating a ceasefire.

Quick Stats: INS Vikrant

  • Length: 262.5 meters

  • Displacement: 45,000 tonnes

  • Speed: 28 knots (Top Speed)

  • Capacity: 1,600 personnel & 30+ aircraft (MiG-29K, MH-60R, Kamov-31)

IFR 2026: A Triple Crown Event for Visakhapatnam

This year’s IFR is not just a parade; it is part of a “Naval Trifecta” occurring in Vizag from February 15–25, including:

  1. International Fleet Review (IFR): A ceremonial inspection by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu.

  2. MILAN 26: The 13th edition of India’s flagship multilateral exercise with over 135 invited nations.

  3. IONS Conclave: The Indian Ocean Naval Symposium bringing together global Naval Chiefs.

Global Presence and Strategic Messaging

While over 55 nations, including the USA and Russia, have already confirmed their participation, notable exclusions include China, Pakistan, and Turkiye—a move seen by experts as a clear geopolitical signal regarding regional security.

“The presence of INS Vikrant symbolizes an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India),” noted a senior naval official. “It carries the legacy of the original R11 Vikrant which served in 1971, but with 21st-century indigenous technology.”

What to Expect at Vizag

Residents and tourists can look forward to the International City Parade at RK Beach on February 19, featuring international naval contingents, flypasts by the Indian Air Force, and a display of India’s “Builder’s Navy” prowess with the latest Visakhapatnam-class destroyers and Nilgiri-class stealth frigates.
