The 43-year-old rebel leader, who was responsible for masterminding at least 26 deadly attacks against security personnel and civilians, was killed along with his wife, Raje, and other key cadres, including Chelluri Narayana and Tech Shankar.

End of a Decades-Long Reign of Terror

Hidma’s death marks a significant operational success, as he was the feared commander of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) Battalion No. 1, considered the deadliest strike unit of the Communist Party of India (Maoist).

Born in Purvathi, Sukma, Chhattisgarh, Hidma held the rare distinction of being the only tribal from the Bastar region to serve as the youngest member of the CPI (Maoist) Central Committee. Security forces had placed a substantial ₹50 lakh bounty on his head, highlighting his seniority and lethality within the organization.

The elimination of Hidma comes before the November 30 deadline set by security forces for his capture, underscoring the intensified operations in the region.

Architect of Major Massacres

Hidma was directly implicated in some of the most gruesome attacks in India’s history of Left-Wing Extremism (LWE):

  • 2010 Dantewada Attack: The massacre that resulted in the deaths of 76 CRPF personnel.

  • 2017 Sukma Attack: An ambush that claimed the lives of 26 CRPF personnel.

  • 2013 Jhiram Valley Massacre: The attack that killed 27 people, including several prominent Congress leaders from Chhattisgarh.

  • 2021 Sukma-Bijapur Encounter: The deadly clash that led to the deaths of 22 security personnel.

The successful operation is viewed by security officials as a major step toward achieving the long-term goal of making Chhattisgarh and neighboring regions Naxal-free by March 31, 2026. Authorities note that in the last two years, over 2,200 Naxalites have abandoned violence and joined the mainstream, signifying the growing pressure on the LWE movement.
